Silai Saheli
Work Undertaken

Our partnership with the Delhi Council of Child Welfare (DCCW) in the Vocational Training Programme aimed to uplift underprivileged girls from resettlement colonies and urban slums in Delhi.

Key Initiatives:

1. Empowering Young Participants: Operating across 13 centers, our project Silai Saheli empowered young girls with essential skills for employment in the field of Sewing. Accredited courses by NIOS and JSS qualified them for government jobs, witnessing a steady increase in beneficiaries each year.

2. Courses and Skill Development: The program offered courses in various fields, enabling girls to work post-marriage without significant investments. Alongside vocational training, sessions in English speaking, confidence-building, and self-defense enhanced their overall development.

3. Promoting Delay in Marriage and Entrepreneurship: The program successfully delayed the average age of marriage from 16 to 23 years. Girls gained confidence and independence, opting to prove themselves rather than marrying due to economic compulsion

4. Supporting Entrepreneurial Journeys: We provided set-up equipment and funding to aspiring entrepreneurs among the girls. Many embarked on entrepreneurial ventures, becoming masters of their destinies and contributing to their communities in meaningful ways.

At UNF, we are committed to partnering with organizations like DCCW to empower underprivileged girls, providing them with the tools and opportunities to create better futures for themselves and their communities.
